La Concepcion Animal Hospital Veterinarian in Santa Barbara and Goleta Offers 20 Years Experience in Complex Animal Surgeries

veterinarian with new patient

One of the most frightening things a pet owner can experience is their beloved companion’s surgery. Whether it be something routine, such as spaying and neutering, or a more complex procedure, you and your pet are in the best possible hands with the La Concepcion Animal Hospital veterinarian in Santa Barbara and Goleta. With over 20 years of experience of in-house veterinary surgery on cats and dogs, anyone new to our practice will not only find a staff and vet surgeon who are experts and experienced in their fields, but also a warm, welcoming and reassuring place.

For any surgery, anesthesia is always a concern, but our staff, state-of-the-art anesthetic monitoring systems, and recovery heating blankets, mostly found only in specialty veterinary hospitals, allow us to deliver anesthesia and monitor recovery for even the most critically ill patients.

We perform a full range of surgeries which includes orthopedic, soft tissue, minimally invasive, and maxillofacial. Here is a closer look at each of these.

Spaying and Neutering

At La Concepcion Animal Hospital, we encourage our clients to get their pets neutered at approximately 6 months or older. Besides our skilled veterinary care, our thorough approach means we meet with you and give your pet a thorough exam prior to surgery, monitor their every vital throughout the procedure, and keep a close and caring eye on them during recovery.

Orthopedic Surgery

Our advanced orthopedic department is charged with handling issues of your pet’s musculoskeletal system. Depending on the situation, orthopedic surgeons use both surgical and nonsurgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, sports injuries, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders. In addition to our expertise, our dedication to the treatment of dogs and cats is shown by our heavy investment in the equipment necessary to perform complex and exacting procedures.

Soft Tissue Surgery

There are many types of soft tissue surgeries, and our surgeon, Dr. Dalo, has significant experience, advanced training and success in handling all of them. These are the pet surgery procedures we perform regularly:

  • Ligation of Heart PDA

  • Vascular Ring Strictures of the Esophagus (PRAA)

  • Tracheal and Esophageal Surgeries

  • Heart and Heart Base Tumors

  • Lung Lobectomy (remove an entire lung lobe or part of a lobe)

  • Placement of Chest Drains for Pleural Space Infections

  • Pericardial Sack Removals

  • Open Abdominal Surgical Procedures

Minimally Invasive Surgeries

When possible, we try to use the least invasive procedures that we can for a positive outcome. Used most often for orthopedic and soft tissue surgeries. There are significant advantages to these procedures including less postoperative pain and faster recovery with fewer expected complications, and often your pet will be able to go home the same day. Dr. Dalo has formal advanced training and experience in arthroscopic, laproscopic and thoracoscopic surgery and unlike many animal hospitals, we have our own equipment to handle these surgeries.

Maxillofacial Surgery

We also have the experience and equipment needed to perform most skull, oral, nasal and ear surgeries. These surgeries often require specialized equipment which we also have onsite.
